It was amazing to see how receptive these guys were
as they listened. Afterwards, Jacob said "Thanks. This helped me a lot."
I offered him a Gospel of John and the others asked for one too.
Jeremiah asked where I go to church. I told him and he said "Man! I want
to go to there." They'd heard the truth and at least knew it for what it
was. Praise God! |

| You
would've thought she was unapproachable, or the last person that would
talk with you about the things of God. She's was 18 and dressed in typical
gothic garb: layers of black, fingerless gloves, and a wiccan pentacle
hanging around her neck. She was sketching a blindfolded skull as we
passed. However, stopping to talk with her turned into an hour-long
one-2-one. |

Thorn was a typical looking highschooler wearing a t-shirt from a popular
but dark rock band. However, it was an open door to share ... what else
can you expect when someone tells you they were named after the crown of
thorns that Jesus wore? This was also one of the few times Jim had someone
ask what had personally brought him to Christ, so after sharing the
biblical gospel with Thorn he was able to go back and recap the message --
telling his own experience of being brought to the narrow gate that swings
open on the two hinges of repentance and faith. |

Jim picked up a street interview with eight teenagers, and it turned into a half-hour witnessing encounter. Nathan in particular had
some real questions (more like objections) about suffering and death in the world. After sharing the gospel, Jim tried to answer those questions
and just asks that the Lord might bless and use it in giving Nathan something to think about. |
|
| Jim took this group through the Christmas Quiz as an ice breaker. They had fun with it and he used the last question to swing into a one-2-four. | |
| Sarah is a Christian girl with
a "basic" understanding of things. As they talked, Jim tried to help
clarify some points by walking her through the Good Person Test
and showing her how we share the gospel. |
|
| The
attitude of this group can be summed up by one of the initial responses
to Jim's interview questions -- "Drugs are only bad if handled badly."
One member of the group professed to be a Christian, however, you could
tell his presence was neither salt nor light amongst the others. Jim
springboarded off of his responses into a quick walk through the gospel. |
|
| Rich sheds some light in the
darkness by talking with two women outside the Rogue Theater as they
wait for the Rocky Horror Picture Show to start. |
|
| Jim had passed out some NZ
Smart Cards. When the red squares didn't change colors, he
used that to swing into a one-2-eight with this group. |
|
| Tony has read alot of books
and has formed some unusual beliefs: conspiracy theories, as well as
ideas about aliens. When asked what he thought happens after we
die, he
mentioned something about learning to control our energy. Jim talked
with him
about sin, righteousness and judgment. Tony admitted the thought of
judgment concerned him, and Jim was able to then share the gospel of
grace. Tony had some really good questions. He asked about
Jesus, the
Trinity, Christ's resurrection, man evolving into gods, the nephilim,
and other things. It was a conversation that stretched and tested Jim,
but he welcomed the opportunity to see how the Bible stands up to these
tough questions and how solid his faith really is. |
|
| This was a divine appointment.
Jim and Mark were amazed that in the heart of all the activity and
noise
of the fair, two 16-year-old boys stood and talked with them for more
than a half-hour on the things of God. They asked sincere and honest
questions as Jim and Mark covered the full count of the gospel: sin,
righteousness, judgment and grace. It was such an incredible blessing
to see God at work. |
|
| Jonnie won the $20.
Afterwards, she told us she and her daughter regularly pick things to
study out of the Bible, and they'd just gone over the Ten Commandments.
Praise God for a mother like that. As we looked into the Mirror of the
Law and began to reveal sin, Christine said that as long we ask for
forgiveness and really mean it in our hearts we'll be OK. When Jim told
her that's not exactly true, tears came to her eyes. He then got to
share the sacrifice and amazing grace of the cross with them. |
|
| Rose was a carny and called
herself a "Penta-Christic". She believed she was saved because her
broken toe had been healed. However, she also said we can never be sure
about it. Mark and Jim talked with her about the necessity of repentance
and faith, and Jim pointed her to 1 John 5:13, "These things I have
written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you
may know that you have eternal life." |
|
| This was Mark's second time
out street fishing with us. He used the "Name Ten Get $20" challenge to
springboard into a one-2-three with some teens at the Josephine County
Fair. |
|
| Jim's Name Ten Get $20 shirt lead
to a
one-2-four. Seemingly active in their
church's youth group, these four teens still struggled to articulate or
come up with the basics of the gospel. Mel reveals that this must have
been a divine appointment, as she comments that they'd just been
talking about what it means to repent. |
|
| Alan
was a non-practicing Catholic. Sadly, he
insisted on staying mired in his objections and excuses. He doubted
scripture and refused to accept the reality of judgment or his
accountability before God. Jim shared as he could, and in the
end we simply
have to leave Alan with the clear and simple truth (see Ezekiel 3:11). |
|
| Eli
looked like he'd walked right out of the Old Testament. He had a staff
or walking stick and wore a robe
with a leather belt, a cloth or blanket draped over his shoulder,
sandals, and something like a turban around his head. When given the
challenge, he named all
Ten Commandments in order! |
